A prison officer in Poland has been suspended, accused of attempting to defraud a restaurant by dumping insects onto his plate in a bid to avoid paying his bill.
The officer, who has not been named, is from the Gorzów Wielkopolski region in western Poland. He was holidaying in Croatia with his family when the incident happened.
The man is seen on a security camera at the Katarina restaurant in Rovinj. He ordered ice creams, and appeared to throw something onto his dish before eating and complaining to the waiter. The restaurateur checked security footage and demanded payment.
Poland’s Ministry of Justice confirmed that an officer of the prison service has been suspended in relation to allegations of “conduct unbecoming” in Croatia. An internal investigation will now take place.
